Extension 1 – Valea Manastirii and the Râmeț Gorges

At the exit of Trascău Mountains, the Râmeț river forms the narrow limestone gorges that share the same name. Little known, they are one of the most spectacular gorges in the Apuseni Mountains. About 1 kilometer long, they resemble a water-carved tunnel, some parts of it still having the rock roof above. Crossing them all the way, the route takes us to the isolated village of Cheia, although the hike might be pretty demanding especially when the river flow is strong and the water is cold. Yes, you read that right, in order to entirely cross them, we’ll need to go through the water in some parts of it. The route is marked and it even has some railings mounted, but still, some parts can’t be crossed unless getting wet. But even if crossing them entirely is not your goal, the easier accessible part of them still offer spectacular views.
