Program

Day 1 – Transfer from the airport to Sighisoara.

Dinner & accommodation in the very centre of the last inhabited medieval fortress: Sighisoara.

Day 2 (36 km cycling) – Transfer to Saros pe Tarnave. From here we start cycling on a beautiful road through flowering meadows to the village of Biertan. Here we visit the fortified church which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We continue cycling through villages and forests until we reach Mosna, a typical Saxon village. Here will have a traditional lunch organized at a small farm in the village. After lunch, we continue cycling to our final destination: Medias. Transfer back to Sighisoara. In the evening dinner and accommodation in Sighisoara.

Day 3 (around 20 km by bike) – The first half of the day we will be cycling along the Breite Plateau. Here we’ll have the opportunity to explore the nature’s diversity in plants and butterflies on the flower-filled meadows where we will also have our picnic lunch. In the second half of the day we’ll have free time in Sighisoara for visiting one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Europe (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Dinner & accommodation in Sighisoara.

Day 4 (35km by bike) – Transfer to Agnita. Our cycling day begins close to the impressive medieval fortified church. Today we will be cycling through Hartibaciu Plateau to the Hosman village. Here we will learn the story of the Old Mill and how it got to be restored.

We will pass near the geographical centre of Romania. And we’ll see the beautiful landscape where nature and human activities still coexist. Wooded hills, grasslands with butterflies, Saxon villages and fortified churches will accompany us along the road. Hartibaciu Plateau is the second-largest Natura 2000 site declared for conservation of the birds, after Danube Delta.

We will have several stops along our way and our cycling in Transylvania day will end in Hosman. From here we will have a transfer to Sibiu or one of the enchanting villages in the surroundings. Dinner & accommodation in Sibiu/ a nice village guesthouse. 

Day 5 (25km by bike) – After breakfast, we drive a short way to the village museum in Sibiu (an open-air museum with traditional buildings from Transylvania and other rural parts of Romania). From here we start our biking trip in the lowland of Cindrel Mountain, on the route Poplaca- Sibiel. Today we will witness some old traditional handicrafts. Dinner & accommodation in Sibiu/ a nice village guesthouse. 

Day 6 (20 km by bike) – After breakfast, we will be cycling to Rasinari Monastery through Dumbrava Forest on a marked unpaved bicycle track. From there, we can continue on a steeper hill towards Cisnadioara. In the afternoon we will have a guided tour in the old town in Sibiu, the cultural capital of Europe in 2007. After this, the rest of the day belongs to each of you to decide how you will spend it in Sibiu. Dinner & accommodation in Sibiu/ a nice village guesthouse. 

Day 7 (40 km by bike) – After breakfast and a short transfer to Cartisoara, we will begin our last day of the Transylvania cycling tour. Today we are crossing the Fagaras lowlands. This is a picturesque road that goes through small villages, having on one side the highest peaks of the Carpathians (Fagaras Mountains) and on the other side Hartibaciu Plateau. We visit with this occasion an old watermill system in Lisa village. In the late afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit a bear hide, for observing the largest carnivore in Europe in its natural environment. Dinner & accommodation in Sibiu/ a nice village guesthouse.

Day 8 – Transfer to the airport.

Extra days can be added to the last day. accommodation can be moved near  Zarnesti, where some great cycling routes exist. Or hiking and wildlife observations in Kingstone National Park.
