Difficulty level
For the hike on the Szekler’s Rock you’ll need proper hiking shoes and trekking poles are also recommended. The hike will take about 3 hours and we’ll need to carry our water as there’s no source of water on the trail. We’ll start our hike at ~500m altitude and reach the peak at 1128m.
Additionally, we could either hike and reach the Coltesti Fortress (~1,5 hrs) and/or the opposite hill from Szekler’s rock, both offering spectacular views over the Rock and Rimetea village.
For the extended tour, the Ramet gorges are only half accessible without getting wet, but if it’s summer and you’re wearing trekking sandals or even better, neoprene shoes and have a waterproof bag, we can cross the entire section.

The transfer from Sibiu takes about an hour.

Extended tour

Extension 1 – Valea Manastirii and the Râmeț Gorges

At the exit of Trascău Mountains, the Râmeț river forms the narrow limestone gorges that share the same name. Little known, they are one of the most spectacular gorges in the Apuseni Mountains. About 1 kilometer long, they resemble a water carved tunnel, some parts of it still having the rock roof above. Crossing them all the way, the route takes us to the isolated village of Cheia, although the hike might be pretty demanding especially when the river flow is strong and the water is cold. Yes, you read that right, in order to entirely cross them, we’ll need to go through water in some parts of it. The route is marked and it even has some railings mounted, but still, some parts can’t be crossed unless getting wet. But even if crossing them entirely is not your goal, the easier accessible part of them still ofer spectacular views.
